The YARDI Guy
The mediocre teacher tells.
According to a news report, a certain private school in Victoria, BC Canada recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done.
The YARDI Guy is WELL-EQUIPPED...
to offer training at your location, that is!
Normally limited to automobile travel destinations, TYG can bring a laptop, DLP projector and projection screen for training at your location, at no extra charge above standard on-site fees and expenses. You may also rearrange your workstations to provide you with hands-on capabilities. Training is also available at more distant (air travel) client locations, however, usually performed at one or more workstations.
If you've ever RENTED a classroom or even a projector, you know how much this will save you. If you haven't, let me give you two examples:
1. A few years ago, I was contracted by a nationally-franchised computer learning center, in the Rockford, Illinois area, to provide a one-day YARDI training course. I provided all the materials and the facility provided the classroom and equipment. I billed the center approximately $800, all fees and expenses included, but the management company paid the center $2,500 - THAT'S MORE THAN THREE TIMES FOR, IN ESSENCE, $1,700 ROOM RENT FOR ONE DAY!!!
2. Not long ago, I observed and participated in YARDI Enterprise Express training in the Twin Cities. The property manager rented a junky LCD overhead projector panel WITHOUT THE REQUIRED OVERHEAD PROJECTOR for, I believe, $500 or $600 (or was it $800?) for two days!!! It was such a piece of garbage that the manager called the computer rental company and gave them "what for" and the training was done instead from one small computer monitor...in a room with seven students. OVERHEADS ARE FOR TRANSPARENCIES; I BRING A DLP COMPUTER PROJECTOR!
Don't spend big bucks to rent junk! Don't spend $2,000 to buy a decent DLP or LCD projector that you may never use again! Can you spell F-R-E-E? I knew you could.
One word of caution. I've arrived at a few clients' offices with laptop, projector and screen, only to be shown to an office or "conference room" the size of a walk-in closet. THAT DOG WON'T HUNT. The projector requires enough "throw" distance to focus...even if it could focus at 18 inches, the viewable area wouldn't exceed that of your own computer monitor. Also, the projector does give off a little heat, so ventilation is important if you intend to stay awake...particularly after lunch.
